A little history about our candle

 This candle is named after Wangari Maathai. Maathai (1940-2011) was a teacher and environmental and men's rights activist from Kenya. She was the first woman from East and Central Africa to earn a doctorate. She founded the Green Belt Movement which is an organization that encouraged women to plant trees to fight against deforestation and environmental degradation. Thanks to this movement, millions of trees have been planted. In 2004, she became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She relies on her movement to fight against the confiscation of public lands
